Non-Euclidean Escape is a puzzle game that uses the clever placement of invisible portals and a couple of other unintuitive gimmicks in its level design. The point of the game is to be a challenge, not something that can be easily completed. The problem-solving that you will have to use on these levels is unlike any other normal game. You will have to approach each level with caution and use your brain to make sense of the hints that the game gives. The name, non-euclidean is a bit misleading. The game still had normal 3d geometry. The portals it uses to transport the player through the world are invisible though (unlike many other games in this niche). This game is a very fun challenge and I hope you enjoy playing it.

Tips

  • The intro sequence may seem a bit long but wait through it. I cannot change it now but the invisible border separating you from the rest of the game will disappear after the voice line is over
  • The walls of this game are designed to look the same everywhere. You will have to make use of the various messages placed on the walls to figure out where you are. The messages on the walls do not repeat
  • The in-game hints are very useful, read them  (they might include keywords to help you out)

Controls

  • WASD - move
  • Mouse - look around
  • Left Mouse - interact
  • Shift - sprint
  • Space - Jump
  • E/Esc - Pause game
  • L - Enter Cheat Code (I genuinely forget them)

The Story - real life

Non-Euclidean Escape is a game that I have put off publishing for more than a year. I started working on Non-Euclidean Escape over 2 years ago. At the time I had many ideas of levels for a game that had invisible portals connecting various parts of the world. I worked on the game for around a year (off and on) creating new levels and programming the systems within the game. I was very invested in this game and wanted to finish it. Life had other plans. As I was almost done with developing the Final Section (hence why the download file is called FNB1 for final section build 1) my computer got hacked by a ransomware attack. I am not a big corporation and didn't have anything very important on my now corrupted computer (other than the game files) so I didn't pay and just wiped the hard drive. I didn't have a backup of the project and thus lost all of the production files for this game and couldn't continue development. And thus, THIS GAME ISN'T FINISHED.

This game isn't finished. When you get to the final section, you will be greeted by a giant floating skull and a few other things that were meant for the final level. This is the same reason that I haven't been able to fully polish this game.

The Story - in-game

The whole premise of the game's story, loosely, is that you have entered a game as a player that has a huge bug in it. The only way to fix the bug is through the game. As you come closer to the bug, or the source of corruption, new game mechanics are introduced to the puzzles. The story isn't that important now because I wasn't able to finish the final level. The entity that greets you when you finish was supposed to be the final boss of the game and the source of the corruption.

The Voice Actor

The voice actor isn't me, the developer. He is a friend that I had at school that was helping me work on this project. He did all of the voice lines and helped me work on the story. Thanks, if you ever see this.

The voice lines in the third section, however, are me. They were me a few years back very late at night just trying to get something in for a prototype before my friend would re-record them. I didn't know that they would end up in the published version.

If you have read all of this, wow. Thank you, it feels good that I am sharing this project that I loved working on so much with other people, even if it doesn't have any polish or isn't finished. Please download and play this game, it's free and would mean a lot to me. Or if you don't have a windows computer or don't want to, just give me a follow or a comment on this post saying that you read it.
